Since childhood, Jenni has entertained friends with her poetry. At the end of the 1900s her work went public in the Pakenham Gazette where her regular articles portrayed life at Officer Primary School. Her poetry and short stories have won competitions, including the Positive Words Poetry Competition, Yakkerboo Poetry and Yakkerboo Short Story prizes Yellow Moon Tanka Competition, Red Cross Poetry Competition, the Berwick Pakenham Gazette Mothers’ Day competition, the Red Pen Challenge and the Red Room Word Slam.
Jenni’s poems, stories, articles and photos have been published in many magazines, anthologies and exhibitions including Phaedra, Yellow Moon, Write On, Tarralla, Pendulum, Mod Piece, Positive Words; anthologies: Bone of My Bone, Scots Harbour and Set Free; educational articles in Nelson school magazines; poetry exhibited in St. Paul’s Cathedral, in a travelling exhibition for the Anti-Caner Council, Casey-Cardinia Power Your Mind Exhibition, and a treasure hunt in poetry in the Cardinia Community Adventure Playground.
Jenni is a regular performer at the WordTree (formerly the Red Room) where she has appeared as a paid guest. She has graced the stage at the opening of the Cardinia Cultural Centre, Montsalvat, Café Arts, The Dan O’Connell Poetry Sessions, Poémes, Dandenong Fine Writers, Drouin’s Ficifolia Festival, the Overload Poetry Festival, Culture Creek, On the Edge Arts Festival, the Victorian Writers’ Centre, Doris Leadbetter Cup and various cafés and pubs. Her work has also been heard on 3SER and 3MDR.
As a member of the Lazy River Writers, Jenni has facilitated several writing workshops, supported by the Victorian Writers’ Centre and Arts Victoria. She has appeared as guest writer for Book Week, run workshops for the PADEC Out of the Box Celebration of Writing and participated in the Children’s Book Council’s Book Week celebrations at the Melbourne Museum. This year Jenni is running Poetry Workshops at the Narre Community Learning Centre Inc. and completing the last subject of her Diploma of Arts, Professional Writing and Editing at Chisholm.
As well as writing, drawing and photography, Jenni’s other passions include singing and amateur theatre. She has performed and worked backstage in many CPAC productions as well as singing in the choir at the Cardinia Carols by Candlelight.
From the 18th of August until the 2nd of September, Jenni can be seen playing the role of Mrs Potts in the Cardinia Performing Arts Company’s production of Beauty and the Beast at the Cardinia Cultural Centre in Pakenham.
